We’re packing up to head to the family farm for the weekend. We try to go out at least twice a year with our friends to play board games but this time we are going out with Joe’s family. Unfortunately, our time with the family farm is growing short. It’s time to hand it over to someone who can use it to its full potential and enjoy it more than a few weekends a year.
We’ve got to see our dogs grow up at the farm, and it’s where Clara was born. Our dog that was literally born in a barn is the least farm dog we know. She enjoys her time out there, but she’d rather be with the humans in the house than running the pastures and fields like Zoe does. Fortunately, neither of our dogs are water dogs so we don’t have to worry too much about them getting wet, but Zoe loves to find something to roll in so she ends up getting a bath whether we want to give her one or not.
We had hoped we’d get to see the kids grow up at the farm too. We saw Lilly enjoy it a bit. We had a spring visit while I was pregnant with her, a fall visit where she laid on the floor, a spring visit where she rolled and crawled around, a fall visit where she could roam the grounds with assistance, and finally a winter visit where she could roam the grounds herself with heavy supervision. She needed a bit of assistance since the ground isn’t exactly level, but she managed to get around.
This will be Elliot’s first trip to the farm. Since he was born in February, our usual spring visit didn’t happen for one reason or another. We can’t wait to get pictures of him on one of the tractors so he can embrace his inner “bubba”.
Now we’re prepping to go to the farm with two kids and two dogs. Even though Lilly has been doing great in her toddler bed we have to bring two pack and plays because the farm isn’t toddler-proof. It’s not babyproof either but Elliot isn’t as quick as Lilly. We’ll grab a handful of toys to bring as well, but the toys out there and Mother Nature usually keep the kids pretty entertained.
If you need me I’ll be by the pond. Enjoying the fresh farm air while the kids and dogs roll around in the grass.
