If the Boot Fits — An Update on Caroline’s Ankle

If the Boot Fits

Written by: Caroline

You may recall our recent trip to the pumpkin patch earlier this month. If not, you can read Joe’s version or mine. Long story short, I twisted my ankle running after our two-year-old daughter, Lilly.

Well, good news, bad news. The good news is that my ankle is more supported and working on feeling better. The bad news is that I’m now in a high boot. It turns out I have a minor fracture.

Last Thursday my ankle wasn’t feeling better so I scheduled an appointment with my primary care provider. She recommended a visit with an orthopedic doctor ASAP. Fortunately, I was able to get in quickly and got new x-rays and a second opinion. The conclusion was that I in fact have a fracture and need to get way more rest and have way more support. Now I am rocking a house shoe and a walking boot for as long as I can wear it during the day. The doctor said as long as I’m wearing the boot I can still chase the kids around and while I feel better in the boot than I did in the brace I’m still not back up to full capacity.

On Saturday we attended a good friend’s wedding. I was bummed we wouldn’t be able to dance because of my injury. Nevertheless, we still had a good time. I did sneak onto the dance floor for the final Schuhplattler dance since I felt comfortable enough doing it.  We had a great time being able to socialize with people we don’t get to see often and celebrate the union of two very happy people.

The next morning I felt a little sore, but the boot helped out a lot. It’s still awkward to get around and my ankle still isn’t feeling great, but I know that I’m on the road to recovery. Hopefully, I will be chasing around the kids by the time we can go sled riding.
