Elliot is on the Move — Our Little Man is Crawling

Elliot who just turned six months old is now crawling and really wants to run and chase after his big sister.

It’s a good thing we never stopped babyproofing the house because now we have two kids on the move. Elliot started sitting up on his own about a week and a half ago and, a few days ago, he started crawling. Lilly has started crawling more often too, which gives him an example of what to do. He still has to hone in his coordination but he’s able to get himself around the living room.

Lilly is barely tolerating this more mobile brother. Whenever he gets too close to her or one of “her toys” she yells, “NO! NO! NO!” Then she pulls herself or the toy away. We’re working on trading out toys instead of taking them away, and it’s starting to stick. The other day, instead of just taking away Elliot’s toy, Lilly gave him a new one and said, “trade” and then threw the toy towards his head. She missed, thankfully. It’s a learning process and at least we’re making progress.

We’re all in a bit of a learning process at the moment. Lilly didn’t start crawling until she was about 7 ½ months old, but she scooted around on her belly and rocked on all fours for a while. Elliot didn’t rock on all fours for very long before he started getting forward momentum and he’s very determined about where he wants to go. At a little over 6 months old, he’s about 19.5 lbs and 27″ long so he might be close to the same size as Lilly when she started crawling even though he’s about a month younger.

It’s not a contest, but I’ll be curious to see when Elliot will start walking since he has such a strong motivator in watching his big sister. Lilly watched and attempted to go after us and the dogs when she was little, but Elliot only has eyes for his big sister. Wherever she is, he wants to follow. While he won’t follow in her footsteps for long, I’m glad they’re moving towards the same place. For now.
