With a three-bedroom house, we had a hard decision to make when we found out we were pregnant with baby number two. Where would we put the children? Would Lilly stay in her bedroom? Would we update the third bedroom (AKA Joe’s office) to be her new room? Ultimately we decided to turn the third bedroom into Lilly’s new room so she could upgrade to a “big girl bed” (laughs and laughs and laughs) and get a new room style. We managed to paint her room and get the furniture in before Elliot was born and attempted to get her used to sleeping in her toddler bed. Ask me later how that’s been working out. (Spoilers: it’s not).
Since I was very pregnant when we painted Lilly’s new room I was not allowed to help, which also meant that I couldn’t help with Elliot’s room. We focused on Lilly’s new room since it would be easier to work on when Lilly could live in her ‘old’ room. We “ruined” the nursery by putting the test colors for an “under the sea” themed room on the walls back in December, the same time we picked out test colors for Lilly’s new room.
We’ve been staring at those test swatches ever since. We picked out a color that we liked and purchased it, but never got around to painting. Lilly spent nights in the nursery and Elliot slept there during the day. I could have put Elliot in his bassinet but I was too tired during the day to even think of painting his room, and I was lucky if they would nap for long stretches at the same time.
Today, I finally made the plunge. Mom came over to help with laundry and the kids, Joe was working on the podcast, and I had finished most of the items on the list I had made for myself. With the kids and house taken care of, I finally started to paint his room. I’ve only got two walls edged so far, and I’m not taking any furniture out of his room so it’s hard to get the space I need, but it’s progress! Who knows when we’ll finally get the room finished, but at three and a half months old it’s probably time to start thinking about when we’re going to get his room finished.
Check back for an update. Maybe we’ll finish it after mom and Larry temporarily move in with us (more on that later) since we’ll have more hands helping out with the kids? Elliot hopes it’s before that.
